Sanjay & Co.

We are based in Birpara, which is part of the Binaguri area in Jalpaiguri. Sanjay & Co. has been a part of this community for years. It’s a small operation. We deal with various goods that the local tea gardens and farms might need. The weather up here can be quite wet, so the walls of the shop always have a bit of dampness on them. We don't mind much. We have a big porch where people can stand when it rains. It’s a good place for a chat while waiting for the clouds to clear. I started this with just a few items and it grew bit by bit. We aren't a big corporation. It's just me and a couple of local guys helping out. We keep a lot of things in stock that are hard to find elsewhere in the village. Sometimes we have to wait a week for the truck to come up from the city with new supplies. The roads can be rough after a storm. Our regulars are mostly people we've known since we were kids. They trust us to have what they need. We close up when the sun goes down usually. It’s a quiet life compared to the city, but we like it that way. No fancy computers here, just a pen and a notebook to keep track of things. It works well enough for the way we live and work together in the hills.
