Om Control Cables

Down here in the GIDC area of Bilimora, we spend our time making control cables. It’s in the Navsari district, so it’s quite an industrial spot. The workshop isn't anything you’d see in a magazine. It’s full of spools, wire cutters, and the sound of machines running most of the day. We’ve got a routine that we stick to. Usually, we start early before the heat gets too bad in the shed. Each cable has to be cut and fitted just right, otherwise, it’s no good to anyone. It’s repetitive work, but we’ve gotten pretty fast at it over the years. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. People usually find us because they need a specific type of cable for their machinery and they heard we were here in Bilimora. Sometimes we run out of a certain gauge of wire and have to wait for the truck to come in from Navsari. It’s just a small group of us working the floor. We drink a lot of tea while we work to keep going. The floor is usually covered in little bits of plastic and metal shavings by the end of the shift. It’s just a simple manufacturing setup. We do our work, make sure the orders are ready for pickup, and that’s about it. No fuss, just cables for various uses. We make sure to sweep up every night before locking the gates and heading out.
