L&T Ecc Divison

Working at the NTPC site in Sipat is quite an experience for those of us in the L&T ECC Division. Ch. Bharath is the main person on-site here, and he’s usually busy dealing with the chaos of a major power plant project. We are located right at Stage 1 of the STPP. It is a massive area, and everything is covered in a fine layer of gray dust from the construction. Bilaspur is the nearest big city, but we spend most of our time right here in the thick of it. The office is a temporary structure, really just a few cabins joined together. It’s noisy because of the heavy machinery and the constant humming of the plant. We have some basic wooden chairs and desks that have seen better days. There’s always a map of the site pinned to the wall, though it’s starting to curl at the edges because of the humidity. We drink a lot of strong tea to keep going through the long shifts. It isn't a place for anyone who likes a clean, air-conditioned lifestyle. We are out in the sun a lot, checking on the progress of the steel structures. Communication can be a bit tricky sometimes with the signal, but we manage. Everyone knows everyone by their first names here. It’s a tough environment, but there is a good sense of being part of something big that’s being built from the ground up right in the middle of Chhattisgarh.
