Bilaspur Pet Scrap

If you come down to Mahamaya Chowk in Sarkanda, you will see us right in front of the Lalit Petrol Pump. That’s where Bilaspur Pet Scrap is. We spend our days sorting through piles of plastic bottles and containers. It’s a messy business but someone has to do it so the plastic doesn't just sit in the ground. We get bags and bags of scrap delivered by different collectors every morning. We have to sort them by color and type before we put them through the crusher. The noise of the plastic being flattened is quite loud and it goes on all day long. It gets very dusty and the smell of old soda can be strong when it’s hot outside. We don't have a fancy office, just a small cabin where we keep the records. We work closely with the truck drivers who take the crushed plastic to the recycling plants. Sometimes the machine breaks down and we are stuck with a mountain of bottles until we can get the mechanic to come over from the city. It’s a lot of manual sorting and lifting heavy bags. We have a small crew of guys from the local area who have been with us for a while. We just focus on keeping the yard organized and getting the scrap processed as fast as we can. It’s busy work but it keeps the chowk a bit cleaner.
