Up here in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, Gannon Dunkerley & Co Ltd is tucked away near the PWD Rest House in Ghumarwin. It’s a beautiful part of the country, but the work is tough because of the hilly terrain. We are located right by Keshav Kumar Sharma’s place, who is the son of Jagdish Kumar Sharma. Everyone around here knows each other, so it’s a very local feel. We don't have a big corporate building; it’s more of a functional space that fits the surroundings. Our work involves a lot of coordination because of the distances between sites in the district. We don't spend money on big signs or fancy decorations. The focus is strictly on the projects we have on hand. The weather can be a bit unpredictable, which sometimes slows things down, but that is part of life in the hills. We have a few desks, some maps on the wall, and a lot of boots near the door. The guys are usually out in the field most of the day. When they come back, there’s a lot of talk about the day’s progress and what needs to happen tomorrow. It’s a no-nonsense environment. We don't make big promises, we just try to be consistent. Being near the rest house makes it easy for visitors to find us, though we don't get many random walk-ins. It’s just a quiet, hardworking office in Ghumarwin.
