Veda Farm Fresh

Out here at Plot No. 44 in Malkosani Village, things move a bit slower than they do in the city. We are right near the primary school, so we hear the kids playing during their breaks while we are working in the fields. Bilara Tehsil is a dry place sometimes, and we spend a lot of our time worrying about the water and the heat. Veda Farm Fresh isn't a big factory or a corporate office. It is just our land where we grow what we can and try to get it ready for market. There is always dirt under our fingernails and the smell of the earth after it rains. We wake up early, usually before the school bell rings, to get a head start on the chores. The equipment needs fixing more often than we’d like, and the sheds are a bit rusty around the edges. We handle everything ourselves, from planting the seeds to loading the crates onto the trucks. Being in Malkosani Village means everyone knows everyone else. We see the same faces every day. Sometimes the birds get into the crops, and we have to chase them off. It is just honest work under the sun. We don't use any fancy systems, just our hands and the tools we've had for years. It’s quiet out here, mostly just the sound of the wind and the occasional tractor passing by on the dirt road.
