Nandlal Joshi Charitable Foundation

Our place is in Nathusar Bass in Bikaner, right at Bhaweri Devi Joshi’s house. It’s a typical Bikaner neighborhood. We’ve been here a while now. The foundation is named after Nandlal Joshi and we try to keep things simple, the way he would have liked. We deal with whatever comes our way during the week. It might be food, it might be helping someone with a bill, or just giving advice. The streets here are narrow and we know everyone by their first name. We don't use big words or have meetings in boardrooms. Usually, we are just sitting on the porch or in the front room figuring things out. It’s dusty work sometimes because of the desert wind blowing through. We don't have a website that’s updated every day or anything like that. We just do the work. If someone is in trouble, they know where to find us in Nathusar Bass. Bikaner is a place where word of mouth matters more than anything else. We are just local residents who decided to put a name to the help we were already giving. It’s not a big operation. It’s just us. We keep our records in old notebooks and try to make the money stretch as far as it can. That’s basically the whole story of this foundation. We’re just here when people need us.
