City Hospital

City Hospital is out in Samta Nagar, over in Bikaner. If you know Rajasthan, you know it gets incredibly hot here, so a lot of our day is spent just trying to keep the building cool. We have thick walls and some old ceiling fans that hum constantly throughout the shift. Samta Nagar is a quieter residential area compared to the city center, which we actually quite like. It feels more like a community here. The building is painted a light sandy color, which helps it blend in with the local surroundings and the dust that blows in from the desert. We don’t have a fancy reception desk; it’s just a wooden table where we keep our registers and a few pens. Most of the people who come in are our neighbors, so there’s a lot of chatting about local news and the weather while they wait. The staff is local too, and we often share snacks that someone brought from home in the small kitchen area. We don’t have any big corporate rules or complicated systems; we just take things as they come and try to stay organized. The nights are much cooler, and sometimes we sit outside for a few minutes before heading home. It’s a simple life in Samta Nagar, and the hospital is just a quiet part of it, standing there among the houses and the dusty trees.
