Vashudev Stone

Our place is located in Bijolia, right near the Parasnath Temple. It’s a well-known area for stone, so we fit right in. We’ve been here for several years now. The yard is usually full of different blocks and cut pieces. It gets very dusty during the dry months. We spend most of our time out there checking the quality of the stone that comes in. Some pieces have nice patterns, others are more plain. We just show people what we have. We don't try to push anything. It’s just about what’s available in the stacks. Sometimes we have to wait for the quarry to send more, which can be frustrating. The temple is a good landmark for people who aren't from around here. We see a lot of people passing by. Our office is just a small room where we keep the papers. Most of the real work happens outside. We have a few guys who help with the loading. It’s hard work on the back, but we’re used to it. We try to keep things moving so the yard doesn't get too jammed up. Every day is pretty much the same. We open up, check the stock, and talk to whoever comes by. It’s a steady way to make a living in Bijolia. The temple bells are a nice backdrop to the work. We've had some of the same guys working here since we opened up. We don't bother with much paperwork beyond what's necessary.
