Our workshop is in the village of Bhootpuri, which you reach via Sherkot. It is a quiet place out here, away from the big cities. We make all kinds of brushes, mostly by hand or using small machines that have been around for decades. It is a post-and-village kind of life where everyone knows everyone. The air is usually filled with the smell of wood and bristles. We don't have a big corporate office or a marketing department. It’s just a few of us sitting on stools and putting the brushes together piece by piece. We get the materials delivered on small trucks that struggle a bit with the village roads. During the monsoon, things slow down a lot because the humidity affects how the glue dries. We don't mind the slower pace, though. We’ve been doing this in Bhootpuri for years and we don't see any reason to change things. Most of our brushes go out to bigger towns, but we sell plenty to the locals too. It’s a honest way to make a living. We usually start very early in the morning when it’s still cool and finish up before it gets too dark. There isn't much to see here other than the piles of wood and the finished brushes, but it’s our home and our work. It is a simple existence and the neighbors often stop by to chat. We focus on making things that last, even if we don't talk about it much. It’s just what we do every day.
