Indian Brick Works

We’ve been out here in Gohawer Tehsil for quite a while now. If you head towards Chandpur Askaripur near Chelapu, you’ll find us easily enough by the smoke and the stacks. Brickmaking is heavy work. It’s mostly mud, water, and fire, and we do a lot of it by hand still. The sun gets hot in the District, but the kilns are hotter. We spend our days making sure the clay is right and the baking is done properly so the bricks don't crumble when they get to a site. People come by in trucks to pick up loads for houses and walls. It’s not fancy work, but it’s what we know. Sometimes the weather doesn’t play nice, and rain can mess up a whole batch of drying bricks. That’s just part of the job. We have a small crew of guys who have been with us for years. They know the rhythm of the place. You won’t find any big offices here, just the yard and the sheds where we keep the tools. We try to keep things moving so builders aren't waiting too long on us. It’s a lot of lifting and loading, day in and day out. We just focus on getting the bricks made and out the gate. There’s always another pile of clay waiting to be turned into something solid. It’s simple, honest work that keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down.
