Bannariamman Handloom Silk Dying And Weaving Association
About Bannariamman Handloom Silk Dying And Weaving Association – Textile in Bijnor
We are located over at Gali Number 2 in Prem Nagar, right near the Ring Road in Bijnor. It is a busy spot, especially in the mornings when the trucks start moving. Our group, the Bannariamman Handloom Silk Dying And Weaving Association, has been working out of House Number 10 for some time now. You can usually find a few of us hanging around the office or down where the weaving happens. Silk is a tricky thing to work with, especially when you are dying it. The colors have to be just right, or the whole batch looks off. We spend a lot of our days checking on the looms and making sure the threads aren't snapping. Sometimes the power goes out, which is just how things are here in UP, but we get by. It isn't a fancy setup by any means. We have our desks and our equipment, and there is usually a lot of dust from the yarn. It gets hot in the summer, so we keep the fans going all day long. If you're coming to visit us, just look for the turn off the main Ring Road. Most people in the neighborhood know where we are if you get lost. We don't have a big fancy sign, but the noise of the looms usually gives it away. It’s just a group of us trying to keep the handloom tradition going without making too much of a fuss about it.
