My house is H No 5-54 in Vattem Village. It’s located in the Bijinapally Mandal area. I go by Mala Anjanamma for all the official paperwork and the work I do here. Life in the village is mostly about the seasons and what needs to be done on the land. I don’t have a shop with a big sign or anything like that. People just know where I live and they come by if they have business with me. Sometimes I’m out in the fields for most of the day, so the house stays locked until I get back in the evening. It’s a quiet existence for the most part. We don't have the noise of the city here, just the sound of the wind and the animals. Dealing with the government offices for permits or whatever is always a bit of a headache, but it’s part of the job. I’ve lived in Vattem for a long time, so everyone is like family. We help each other out when the harvest is ready or when someone is sick. My work isn't something I can explain with fancy words. It's just physical labor and keeping track of things. I hope to keep doing this as long as I’m able. It’s not much, but it’s mine. The walk to the mandal office takes a while, so I only go when I absolutely have to. I prefer staying here in Vattem Village. The air is cleaner and I know every path. Some days the work is just too much.
