You can find L V Iyangar Bakery at 6-21 in the Gacchinakatti Colony area of Vijayapura. We are a local spot where the smell of baking bread is usually the first thing you notice when you walk down the street. We start our work very early, often while most people are still asleep, getting the ovens ready and mixing the dough. We make things like rusks, buns, and those salt biscuits that people like with their tea. The shop itself is simple with glass counters and some wooden shelves for the fresh loaves. We do not have a big staff, just a few of us who know the recipes by heart. It gets quite warm near the ovens, especially in the summer months, but that is just the nature of the job. People from the colony come in throughout the day, usually looking for something sweet or a fresh packet of bread for breakfast. We do not use any fancy machinery, just the basic stuff that has worked for years. Sometimes we run out of certain items by the afternoon, so we have to tell people to come back the next morning. We spend a lot of time cleaning up flour from the floor and keeping the counters wiped down. It is a simple life, but we like being part of the neighborhood. Every day is pretty much the same routine of baking, packing, and selling.
