Govt. Maharishi Valmiki College

This is the government college out here in Bhanupratappur. If you're coming down Sambalpur Road, you really can't miss it because it's a fairly large landmark in this area. We are situated right in the heart of the Kanker district. Being a government institution, things are run in a pretty straightforward and traditional way. We have students coming in from all the nearby villages and the town itself. Most of them take the local bus or just walk if they live close enough. The building is quite old, featuring high ceilings and those big, heavy windows that let in a nice breeze when it isn't too hot outside. It gets remarkably quiet during the lecture hours, except for the occasional sound of a teacher talking at the front of a classroom. We offer several different courses, so you always see a mix of people studying things like arts or science walking around the campus. There is some open space with grass and trees where students like to sit and talk between their scheduled classes. It’s certainly not a high-tech facility, but we have all the basic rooms and labs that are needed for the coursework. The staff room is usually the hub of the college where we catch up over tea. We have to deal with a lot of manual paperwork, which is just part of how things work here. During the rainy season, the road outside tends to get a bit muddy, but we manage.
