Dara Bricks Industries

Down here in Dayalpur, near Chandi Bihar Sharif, things move at their own pace. We run Dara Bricks Industries right in the heart of the Tulsigarh area. Making bricks is hard work and it depends a lot on what the clouds are doing. If it rains, we have to stop and cover everything up fast or the whole batch is ruined. It is a lot of mud and fire and waiting for things to dry out properly. My brothers and I take turns watching the kiln at night because the heat has to stay just right. It is a big operation but it feels small because we know everyone in Chandi Nalanda. We have been sitting on this piece of land for years and the soil here is good for what we do. People come from the nearby villages when they are building a new wall or a house. We don’t have a big office or anything, just a small desk and a lot of open space for the stacks. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the dirt road if the weather is bad. That is just part of the job and we have to pull them out ourselves. We keep the fires going as long as we can during the season. It is dusty work, and our clothes are always red from the clay. We just try to make enough for everyone who needs them.
