Mahesh Traders is right in the middle of Gandhi Gunj. If you’ve ever been to a gunj, you know it’s all about the bustle. There are trucks constantly backing in and out, and the air is always thick with the smell of grain and dust. We operate right out of our spot there, and it’s a very hands-on kind of business. We don't sit behind fancy computers all day. Most of the time, we are out on the floor, checking the quality of what’s coming in or talking to the drivers. It’s loud and it can be pretty chaotic during the peak season. We’ve got a small office area where we keep the books, but even there, the noise follows you. The walls are covered in old notices and maybe a picture of a deity with some faded flowers. We don't have a reception desk or a waiting room. If you come to see us, you’ll likely find us with dirt on our hands or arguing over a weight measurement. It’s the kind of place where a handshake still means a lot. We’ve been in Gandhi Gunj for a long time, and we know most of the other traders by name. We just do our business, settle the accounts, and head home when the sun goes down. It’s not a complicated life, but it’s ours.
