Baliraja Dal Mill

Baliraja Dal Mill is out on Bidar Road. It’s a bit away from the main town center, which we actually like because there’s more room for the trucks to park. We’ve been here long enough that the road feels like home. The mill is where we spend almost all our time. It’s full of heavy sacks and the sound of the rollers. We work with lentils and pulses, mostly. It is a dusty job, and you have to be okay with that if you want to work here. We aren't a high-tech company. We use older machines that we know how to fix ourselves. There’s something nice about knowing exactly how the equipment works. We don't have a secretary or a marketing person. If the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands and answers it. The Bidar Road can get lonely at night, but during the day it’s full of life. We focus on the daily tasks. We make sure the grain is processed properly before it gets loaded back up. It’s a straightforward business. We don't have any big meetings or long speeches. We just get to work. Some days are harder than others, especially when it rains and we have to move everything inside quickly. But we’ve survived many seasons here. It’s just our way of life at Baliraja. We hope to stay out here for a long time.
