Tanna Laboratory

Being located on Hospital Road in Kutch means we see a lot of people passing by all day. It’s a dusty road sometimes, especially when the wind picks up and blows through the doorway. The lab isn't very big, but we have enough space for the microscopes and all the sample tubes. Usually, the first thing we do in the morning is check the temperatures on the refrigerators where we keep the supplies. It’s really important because of the heat we get here in Kutch. We get people coming in early before they go to work, wanting to get their blood drawn or drop something off. The benches are made of that dark laminate that’s easy to wipe down and keep clean. We spend a lot of time labeling things and writing notes in the big ledger we keep on the main desk. There’s a small fan in the corner that hums while we work, though it doesn't do much when it's really hot outside. Sometimes the delivery guys for the medical supplies stop by for a chat while they drop off boxes in the hallway. You can hear the sounds of the hospital nearby, the ambulances and the general bustle of Hospital Road. Tanna Laboratory is a practical place, not much for decoration or fancy stuff. We have some posters on the wall about safety and hand washing. Most of our day is spent looking through lenses or waiting for a machine to beep. It’s a steady kind of life here for us.
