We are out on the Bathinda-Barnaala GT Road, specifically in the Marble Market at Bhucho Kalan. If you are looking for us, we are in the office of Sanjeev Singla. This whole area is dedicated to stone, so there is white dust everywhere you look. It is a very busy market with trucks unloading heavy slabs of marble all day. At Om Sangemarmar Trading Co., we deal with stone, which is a lot of heavy lifting and careful moving. The sound of stone being cut is pretty much the background music of our lives here. Our office is just a simple room where we sit and talk to customers about their floor plans. We have samples of different stones leaning against the walls. It is a bit of a rough-and-tumble place, not like a shopping mall. We wear sturdy shoes because of the stone chips and the uneven ground. Bathinda can get very hot or very cold, so we have to deal with that as it comes. Most of our day is spent negotiating with transporters or showing people the different grains in the marble. We have been part of this market for a long time. Everyone knows everyone else here on the GT Road. We just keep our heads down and focus on the slabs we have in stock. It is heavy work, but someone has to do it. We usually close up when it gets dark and the market finally quiets down.
