Orissa India Craft

If you walk through IRC Village, you’ll find us at N-2 Plot No. 117 A. We’re right across from the Priemer Sealing Pup School. It’s a bit of a crowded space because we have boxes and crates stacked up almost to the ceiling. We mostly handle local crafts that come in from different parts of Orissa. A lot of the time we are just unpacking things and making sure nothing got broken on the way here. The floor is usually covered in bubble wrap and tape. It’s not a fancy shop where everything is on display. It’s more like a workshop where we get things ready to go out to people who want them. The school across the street gets loud when the kids are out, which reminds us of the time of day. We spend hours checking the wood carvings or the fabric items for any small mistakes. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk, other days it’s a rush to get everything shipped out before the courier shows up. The shelves are a bit dusty, but that’s just how it is when you’re dealing with this kind of stuff. We’ve been here for a bit now, and we know the neighbors well. It’s just a practical way to keep the local crafts moving through the city and beyond. We do our best to keep things moving and stay organized in this small space.
