Engineer-In-Chief

Started at S-2, 575 in Niladree Vihar a long time ago. The building is near Sailashree Vihar in Bhubaneswar. It’s a quiet area mostly, though the main road gets noisy in the mornings. We have a few desks and a lot of paper everywhere. It’s just how it is when you’re dealing with engineering stuff all day. The fans keep spinning to beat the Orissa heat, but sometimes they just move the warm air around. People stop by and ask for directions because the house numbering here is a bit confusing for outsiders. We spend most of our time looking at blueprints and talking to contractors on the phone. Sometimes we go out to sites, but the office is where the planning happens. It’s not a fancy place with glass walls or anything like that. Just a regular room where work gets done. My desk is near the window, so I see the neighborhood kids playing after school. It keeps things from feeling too stiff. We’ve known the neighbors for years now. Usually, someone brings in tea around four o’clock, and we take a short break before finishing up the day's tasks. It isn't a massive operation, just a handful of us trying to stay on top of the projects we have. Bhubaneswar has changed a lot since we set up here, but this corner of Niladree Vihar feels pretty much the same as it always did.
