Umakanta Pani runs things here at our branch in Bhubaneswar. We are at Plot No: 171 P, Unit-IX F, on Bayababa Matha Road. This part of Orissa is quite active, and our office is right in the thick of it. The road outside can get quite busy with devotees and locals moving around the matha. Inside, the office is pretty plain. We have some desks, a few chairs for visitors, and lots of cabinets for all the land records we have to maintain. It’s a lot of administrative work, checking titles and making sure the boundaries are correct. We don’t really do much in the way of marketing; people usually find us because they have specific business to discuss regarding the projects here. The weather in Bhubaneswar can get really humid, so the ceiling fans are always running at full speed. We drink a lot of water and try to stay cool while we work through the stacks of applications on our desks. Sometimes we have to go out into the field to look at the plots, which means getting our boots dirty in the Khurda district. It’s practical work that requires a lot of patience. We’ve been here for years and the office has a very lived-in feel to it. It’s just a place where we get the daily job done without any fuss. We take things as they come and try to be helpful to whoever walks in.
