Vedanta Aluminium Limited

Our presence in Bhubaneswar is pretty central to how we run things in Orissa. Being the state capital, it’s where a lot of the big decisions and coordination for Vedanta Aluminium Limited happen. The office here is usually humming with activity because there’s always someone visiting from one of the plant sites or a government official needing to talk. It’s a humid city, so the office is our refuge from the heat most of the year. We don't go in for anything fancy. The furniture is a bit older and the layout is just what was practical when we moved in. We spend our time on computers and in meetings, trying to keep the whole machine running without too many hiccups. It’s a lot of coordination between the different districts and making sure everyone is on the same page. You won’t find any mission statements hanging on the walls here, just a lot of calendars and whiteboards with numbers on them. The people who work here have been with the company for years and they know the business inside and out. We take our tea breaks together and try to ignore the noise from the street as best as we can. It’s a busy life in a busy city, but we just focus on the task at hand and try to stay organized. It’s not a flashy job, but it is an important one for the company.
