Our place, Site Engg., is located out at Sriram Po Jamakhunta in the Bolangir district of Orissa. Laxmikantmahanand is the name associated with this spot. It’s a bit of a trek to get here if you’re coming from the bigger towns, but we like the quiet of the area. The office is very basic, reflecting the rural surroundings. We have some sturdy tables and a few filing cabinets to keep our records straight. Working in this part of Orissa means we have to be a bit more self-reliant. Sometimes the internet is slow or the power goes out, so we keep physical backups of everything. We don’t have a team of people to handle the phones or clean the floors; we just do it ourselves. The building is simple, made of local materials, and it stays relatively cool in the summer. We spend a lot of our time out in the fields or at various construction sites around the district, so the office is often empty for hours at a time. When we are here, it’s usually for calculations or planning the next day’s work. There aren’t many distractions in Jamakhunta, which helps us focus. We aren't trying to be the biggest engineering firm around. We just want to do honest work and stay busy enough to keep things running. It’s a slow-paced life, and we’re okay with that.
