I work as a service engineer for Aurora Engg and our main point of contact is over at Padmini Sahu’s place in Rajendra Nagar. Cuttack is a busy place and there’s always something needing a look at. Being in Orissa, the weather can be a bit much, but the work is steady. We handle various engineering tasks that come our way. Most of the time, I’m out on calls or checking on equipment. It isn’t a glamorous job with a glass building. We operate out of a regular spot. People usually find us through word of mouth or if they know Padmini. I’ve been doing this for a while now and you get used to the routine. The office is tucked away in Rajendra Nagar, which is easy enough to find if you know the landmarks. We deal with technical issues that crop up in different machinery. Sometimes it takes a few hours to figure out what’s wrong. There’s no point rushing things if you want it done right. I keep my tools organized, mostly. My day starts early with tea and then checking the list of visits. It’s a local operation. We don’t do much talk, just get to the site and start working. If a machine breaks down, it stops everything, so we try to get there when we can. It’s just how we do things here. Simple and direct. No corporate manual, just real effort in Cuttack.
