Our office is located at E-30 in the IRC Village area of Nayapalli. If you know Bhubaneswar, you know it can get pretty humid, so we keep the fans going all day long. Jaygaurav Pattnaik handles most of the emails, and you can reach him at the Yahoo address if the landline is acting up, which it does sometimes when it rains hard. We do construction work, mostly local projects around Orissa. The office is full of rolled-up blueprints and stacks of site reports that never seem to get shorter. There are a few of us here who have been working together for years. We usually start the day early before the sun gets too high, checking on where the trucks are and if the cement arrived on time. It is not a very quiet office because there is always someone talking on a mobile phone to a site supervisor or a supplier. We have some plastic chairs for guests, but most people just come in to drop off paperwork and leave quickly. It feels like we are always chasing deadlines, but that is just the way the building trade goes. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the stall down the road. We don’t spend much on decorating the place because we’re usually out at the sites anyway. It’s a practical space for a practical business. We just keep moving from one project to the next and hope for good weather.
