Sharda Saree Sarovar

We are over at 86/168 in the New Market area of T. T. Nagar. It’s a crowded spot but that’s where all the action is for shoppers. We sell sarees. Every morning we sweep the floor and start unfolding the stacks of fabric. Customers come in looking for something specific for a party, or sometimes they just want to see what’s new in the latest patterns. We have a lot of different colors and materials. Some are heavy with work, some are light for daily wear in the heat. It gets really busy during wedding season or the big festivals. T. T. Nagar has always been a hub for shopping so it makes sense for us to be here. The shelves are absolutely packed. Sometimes it's hard to find a specific piece if we didn't put it back right the night before. We take a break for tea around four when it's a bit quieter. Most of the people who come in live nearby in the neighborhood. They’ve been buying from us for years. We aren't a big showroom with air conditioning that freezes you to the bone. It’s just a regular shop. We keep the lights on and wait for the regulars to stop by. Sometimes the kids come in and run around while the mothers are looking at the fabric. It’s just how it is. We try to keep the prices fair so people keep coming back. New Market is always noisy outside. Inside, it's just us and the piles of cloth.
