If you ask around Gadi Katuna for Anil Singh’s place or the hospital, someone will point you toward us. The name is a bit of a mouthful, Shakuntala and Damodar Memorial Hospital, but most people just call it the hospital. It’s one of those buildings that feels like it’s been part of the landscape for a long time. We spend a lot of our day just managing the basics. There’s always a light that needs changing or a floor that needs a second mop after a rainy afternoon. The entrance gets pretty busy around mid-morning. You’ll see people waiting on the benches, talking quietly or just looking at their phones. We aren't trying to be the most modern place in the world, just a place that functions when people need it. The staff knows most of the regular faces who come through the door. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the backup to kick in, which is just part of living and working here. There’s a specific way the sun hits the front windows in the evening that makes the whole lobby look a bit golden for an hour. We keep a few plants near the door, though they don’t always get enough water. It’s just a busy, working hospital where we do what needs doing every single day without much fuss.
