Designing Cell

Arera Colony is a nice part of Bhopal, and being near the 12 No Bus Stop means there’s always something happening outside. Our office at Designing Cell is on 2nd Street in the Railway Colony area. It’s a pretty straightforward setup where we spend most of our hours looking at blueprints or sketching out ideas for different spaces. The walls have some of our older drawings pinned up, mostly because we haven't bothered to take them down. It gets a little dusty because of the wind coming off the main road, but we keep the desks mostly clear for work. People stop by to talk about their houses or shops they want to fix up. We don't have a big fancy reception or anything, just some chairs and a table where we can look at papers together. Most days start with us checking the site measurements we took the day before. If we’re not here, we are probably out at a site checking on the workers or picking out materials like tiles and paint. The afternoon tea break is the only time things really slow down for a bit. We’ve been in this spot for some time now and we’ve gotten used to the sound of the buses and the local market noise. It’s just how we work, focusing on the practical side of things without making it more complicated than it needs to be.
