Prakash Dal Mills

We have been running Prakash Dal Mills for a good while now here in Bikramganj. It is situated right in the Rohtak district, and if you are looking for us, we are just nearby the Ashram Patna area. Most days around here start pretty early because the machines need to get warmed up before the sun is even fully up. We spend most of our time dealing with different kinds of pulses and lentils that come in from the local areas. It gets quite dusty inside the mill, but that is just part of the job. There is a lot of noise too, so you sort of get used to shouting over the grinders just to hear each other talk. We don’t have fancy offices or anything like that. It is just a practical space where we get the work done. People from the neighborhood stop by often, and we know most of the regulars by name. Sometimes the electricity acts up, which can be a real pain when you have a big batch of dal halfway through processing. But we manage to keep things moving one way or another. Our spot near the ashram makes it easy for folks to find us, even if the roads get a bit crowded during the busy hours. It’s not a glamorous life, but it is honest work and we have been doing it long enough that the smell of processed grain feels like home now.
