Jugal Kishore Durga Prasad is located in the Anaj Mandi area within Tehsil- Charkhi Dadri of the Bhiwani district. Being in a grain market means our lives are tied to the seasons. When it’s harvest time, the whole place is a mess of tractors and piles of grain. Dust gets everywhere, and there is a lot of shouting and haggling going on from early morning until late at night. Our office is a simple room in the middle of all that chaos. It has a high ceiling and a heavy door to keep the dust out. We spend most of our time sitting on the floor or on low stools talking to the folks who come in from the surrounding villages. It’s a tradition that goes back a long way in this part of Bhiwani. We don't have air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that keeps the air moving. The walls are painted a dull shade of yellow that’s faded over the years. We keep our records in big bound books that are stacked up on the shelves. There’s always a pot of tea going somewhere nearby. It’s a slow pace of life during the off-season, but we still come in every day to keep things tidy. We know the land and the people around Charkhi Dadri quite well. It’s just how things are done in the mandi. We work hard when we have to and rest when the market is quiet.
