Bharat Engineering Works

Bharat Engineering Works is located in the Gowshala Market on Bhiwani Road. It’s a pretty lively spot to be in. There are always people coming and going from the other shops nearby, and you can hear the cows from the gowshala occasionally. Our shop is right on the edge of the market. We have a lot of tools hanging on the walls and a heavy wooden bench that’s been here since the business started. It’s got deep gouges and stains on it from years of use. We don’t have a computer for the accounts; it’s all done in a diary by hand. Most of our day is spent at the bench or working on something brought in by a local farmer or a truck driver. We have a small stove in the back to make tea when it gets cold in the winter months. The floor is just packed dirt and stone in some parts. It’s not the most modern setup you’ll ever see, but it works for what we do. People stop by just to chat sometimes even if they don't need anything fixed. We know most of the families around here. When the power goes off, we just open the front door wider to let the sunlight in so we can keep seeing what we are doing. It’s a slow pace compared to the big cities, but we like being part of the market here on Bhiwani Road.
