We’re up on the 2nd floor of Shriram Complex, number 51 to be exact. It’s in the Muralidhar Compound on Kalyan Road. The climb up the stairs can be a bit much if you’re carrying heavy rolls of fabric, but we’ve done it so many times we don't even think about it anymore. The room is usually filled with the sound of sewing machines and scissors cutting through cloth. We have stacks of different materials piled up against the walls. It’s not a fancy boutique, just a place where we get the tailoring and fabric work done. Kalyan Road is always loud with traffic, so we usually have the windows shut to keep some of the dust out. We spend most of our time bent over the cutting tables or checking the stitching on a garment. It’s a lot of detail work and our eyes get tired by the end of the shift. We’ve got a small kettle in the corner for tea breaks, which is usually when we catch up on what’s happening in the compound. It’s a busy place with a lot of other small workshops around us. We don't really have a receptionist, so if someone walks in, one of us just looks up from the machine to see what they need. It’s honest work and we’ve been here long enough to know all the shortcuts through the traffic.
