Ketan Bricks

Our spot is at Survey No-71/A on New Taraline. It’s a bit of an industrial patch of land. We’ve got the whole area set up for brick making and storage. It’s not the most scenic place, just a lot of dirt, some sheds, and rows upon rows of bricks. We started Ketan Bricks a while back and it’s been a bit of a struggle at times, but we’re still here. The New Taraline road gets pretty busy with commercial traffic, which helps people notice we are here. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. Usually, there’s a dog sleeping near the gate and a few of us moving pallets around. We use old machinery that we have to fix ourselves most of the time. It squeaks and rattles, but it gets the job done. We don't have a mission statement or any of those things. We just try to make bricks that don't break too easily. People come by with their trucks and we help them load up. It’s a lot of physical effort and the sun can be really brutal on this plot because there isn't much shade. We just drink a lot of water and keep moving. It’s not the kind of job you do if you want to stay clean. By the time we head home, everything we own is covered in a layer of fine dust. It is hard work, but it pays the bills.
