Down in Tapukra, over in the Alwar district, you’ll find our school. It’s an industrial sort of area, so there are always trucks moving nearby on the main roads. The school building stands out a bit because it’s a fair size compared to the smaller shops around it. We have a lot of kids from the local families who work in the factories or have farms nearby. The playground is a big open space where we do morning assembly. Sometimes the wind picks up a lot of dust, so we have to go inside quickly. Inside, the walls are painted a neutral color, and we try to keep things organized, though with hundreds of students, there is always a stray bag or a lost water bottle somewhere. The teachers here are mostly locals who have been around for a long time. We don't have a lot of fancy gadgets, just the usual books and blackboards. We find that the old ways of teaching still work pretty well. Lunchtime is the loudest part of the day when everyone sits out in the corridors or under the few trees we have in the yard. It’s a straightforward kind of place. We show up, do the lessons, and make sure the kids are learning what they need to. It’s not a complicated life, but it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. We just try to make it a decent place for everyone who comes through the doors.
