Out here in Phase-Ii of the RIICO Industrial Area in Alwar, things are mostly about the heat and the sound of metal. Our unit, G1-700, is right in the middle of it all. At Jindal Forgings, the day starts with the machines warming up. It’s an industrial space, so don't expect it to be quiet or particularly clean. There is iron dust and the smell of cooling metal everywhere. We spend most of our time on the floor, making sure the forgings are coming out right. The sun beats down on the corrugated roof in the afternoons, making it pretty hot inside. We have big heavy equipment that’s been running for years. It’s hard work, and our clothes usually end up stained by the end of the shift. Alwar's industrial zone is a bit out of the way, but it’s where all the real making happens. We don't have a fancy reception area or anything like that. Just a small corner with a table where we keep the logs and the blueprints. There are piles of raw materials in the yard and finished parts waiting to be loaded onto trucks. The guys working here have been at it a long time. We know the rhythm of the hammers and the hiss of the presses. It’s about being precise with the metal while dealing with the grit of the factory. It’s just what we do every day, year after year, without much change.
