Prawal General Store

Prawal General Store is over on Hospital Road in Dabra. Being near the hospital means we see a lot of different people coming and going at all hours of the day. We try to keep the shelves stocked with everything from basic snacks to things like toothbrushes and bandages. The shop is quite packed, so you have to be careful not to knock anything over when you’re walking between the rows of goods. We don't have any air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that have been there for years and squeak a little bit. The walls are painted a pale color that’s faded over time. Every morning, we arrive early to open the heavy metal shutters and sweep the front step. The street outside is usually crowded with cycles and people heading toward the hospital. We don’t do any big advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here on Hospital Road if they need something quick for their families. We have a lot of small jars filled with candies and toffees near the front counter for the kids who come in. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once, but we manage. Most of our day is spent just reorganizing the stock that gets moved around. It’s a basic shop in a busy part of Gwalior, and we just try to keep things moving along as best as we can, I guess.
