Tadka Masala

Tadka Masala is right on the Kunhari Main Road Market. It’s a very noisy spot because of all the traffic. We are quite close to the Balaji Mandir, so you can often hear the bells and see the people walking by on their way to pray. The shop itself is small and packed with containers. We spend the morning grinding things up and the smell of chili and cumin gets into everything. It makes you sneeze if you aren’t used to it. The market is always crowded, especially in the evenings when everyone is out buying things for dinner. We have to keep the doors open for some air, but that means the dust from the road comes in too. It’s just a regular market shop. There is no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it's on high. We write down all the orders in a big paper ledger because it’s easier than using a computer for everything. Sometimes we run out of certain things and have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s a busy life here in Kunhari. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here. We’ve been at this location for a good while, and the spot near the temple is easy for people to find. It’s hard work and the days are long, but we keep at it. Most days the power is fine but we keep candles just in case.
