Surbhi Sandle House

Surbhi Sandle House is tucked away in the basement of the Gyandeep Complex over in Azad Nagar. You have to walk down a few steps to get to us, so it’s a bit cooler than being right on the street level. The shop is filled from floor to ceiling with boxes of sandals and shoes. We spend a lot of our time climbing ladders to pull down the right size for someone or rearranging the displays so people can see what we have. Azad Nagar is a crowded area, so there is always a lot of noise from the traffic and the people walking by upstairs. In the basement, it feels a bit more private. We have a few mirrors on the walls and some stools for people to sit on while they try things on. Sometimes the lighting is a bit yellow, but it’s enough to see by. We don’t have a fancy showroom, just a lot of stock and a counter where we wrap things up in newspaper or plastic bags. It’s a lot of work keeping track of all the different styles and making sure we don’t run out of the popular sizes. Most of our day is spent talking to customers and helping them find something that fits. By the end of the day, our legs are usually tired from going up and down those basement stairs, but we just lock up and do it all again the next morning.
