Shanti Phad Arts

Shanti Phad Arts is located in Shahpura, specifically at Shahpura Raj P O Shahpura. This is a place where we spend our days working on traditional paintings. It is a slow process and requires a lot of sitting in one spot. The room is usually filled with the smell of natural pigments and the sound of brushes on cloth. We don't do things quickly here because that is not how this kind of art works. It is something we have been doing for a long time. The workshop is simple, with mats on the floor and boards leaned against the walls. We get visitors sometimes who want to see how the Phad scrolls are made. We show them the colors we grind and the stories we draw. It is not a fancy gallery. It is a working space where things get messy. We have piles of fabric and pots of ink everywhere. Shahpura is a quiet town, and we like it that way. Most of our day is just spent focusing on the details of a specific figure or a border. It is hard on the eyes after a few hours, so we take breaks and walk around the village. We aren't trying to be famous or anything. We just want to keep making these arts the way they have always been made in this region.
