The yard here at Milan Crane Service is right across from the Chaganmal Bhagatawar Mal Petrol Pump. You can’t miss us if you’re heading down Chittor Road near the old bus stand. It’s a dusty spot but it works for what we do. We have these big cranes sitting out there waiting for the next job. Sometimes the phone rings early in the morning because someone has a heavy load that won't move on its own. We’ve spent many years looking at the traffic go by the bus stand while we maintain the equipment. It takes a lot of grease and oil to keep these machines moving right. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning. Usually, we are just sitting on a plastic chair or standing by the gate. People come by to ask if we can lift something at a construction site or move a piece of heavy machinery that got stuck. We just figure out which crane is free and head out. The weather can be a bit rough sometimes, either too hot or raining, but the work doesn't really stop. We’ve seen the road change a lot over the years, but the petrol pump across the way is still there. It’s a simple setup we have, focused on the heavy lifting and making sure the cables and hooks are in good shape for the next day of work. We mostly just drink our tea and wait for the next call.
