Manglam Bag House

You can find Manglam Bag House over in Gandhi Bazar. It’s a busy area and we’ve been part of the noise for quite a while now. We deal with all sorts of bags, mostly the kind people use for grocery shopping or carrying their lunch to work. The shop is narrow, so we have to stack the bags high up towards the ceiling. We spend a lot of time climbing up on a small wooden ladder to get things down for people. It’s a lot of repetitive work, checking the seams and making sure the handles are sturdy. Gandhi Bazar has a certain energy, especially in the evenings when everyone is out buying their daily needs. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything fancy like that. We just put our bags out where people can see them and wait for someone to stop. Sometimes we sit on the front step and talk to the guy who sells fruit next door. It’s a simple arrangement. The floor is a bit uneven and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We close up when the street starts to get quiet, usually after everyone else has already headed home. It’s just a regular shop doing regular things, day in and day out, right here in the bazaar. We try to keep things tidy, but with so many bags, it's a never-ending job to keep them all in line.
