Gora Fancy Store

Down here in Bapu Nagar, you will find Gora Fancy Store. It’s a real neighborhood place. I’ve been working out of this spot for a long time now. I’ve seen kids grow up, go away, and then come back years later with their own families. The store is pretty packed with stuff. We carry everything from sewing buttons and colorful bangles to little household things you might have forgotten to buy. Bapu Nagar is a bit quieter than the main market area, which I actually prefer. I have a little stool I sit on near the door when the shop is empty. The wooden shelves have started to bow a little in the middle because they’ve been holding so much weight for so many years. I know exactly where everything is, even if it looks like a jumble to anyone else walking in. If someone asks for a specific type of thread, I can usually point right to it without even thinking. The bell above the door is a bit rusty and makes a sharp ringing sound every time someone enters. I really should get around to oiling it one of these days. Most days follow the same pattern. I open up, sweep the sidewalk, and wait for the regulars to stop by. It’s a steady pace. I don’t use a computer or anything fancy. I just keep a simple notebook for my accounts. It is honest work.
