Devilal Kutir Soap

We are located at 46 Main Shastri Nagar. Devilal Kutir Soap has been part of this street for a good bit of time. The air around here usually smells like lye or whatever oils we happen to be mixing that morning. It’s a small operation, mostly just a few of us handling the vats and cutting the bars once they’ve set. We don’t have any big machines doing the work for us. It’s all done by hand in the back room. The floors stay a bit slippery if we aren't careful with the water. We pack everything into crates and wait for the local shops to come pick them up. Sometimes neighbors stop by just to say hello or buy a few bars directly from the door. We don't have a storefront really, just the workspace where everything happens. It gets quite humid in the summer months when the steam is rising from the boiling pots. We try to keep things organized, but when we have a big order, there are stacks of soap drying everywhere you look. It's a steady life here in Shastri Nagar. We know the rhythm of the street and when the delivery vans are going to block the narrow way. We just keep our heads down and make sure the batches come out right. There’s a certain way you have to stir it so it doesn't get ruined. We’ve learned that the hard way over the years through plenty of mistakes.
