Balasubramaniyan Rice Mill

Balasubramaniyan Rice Mill is located in Bhawanigarh, specifically near the paper factory. It’s a rural setting, part of the village and post office area of Tehsil Bhawanigarh in Sangrur district. Being near a paper factory means there's always some industrial activity around, but the mill itself has its own rhythm. When the harvest season comes, it gets incredibly busy here. There are trucks and tractors coming in and out at all hours. The air is always a bit thick with the smell of grain and the sound of the machines humming away. It’s a loud place when everything is running, but we’re used to it. The mill has been part of the community for a long time. We don't have a fancy office. Most of the work happens out on the floor or in the loading area. We have a small room where we keep the records and where people can sit down for a minute, but it's very basic. The floors are concrete and there's usually a bit of dust, which is unavoidable in this line of work. We work with the local farmers and suppliers directly. There aren't any complicated contracts or corporate layers. It’s just about getting the rice processed and moved out to where it needs to go. It’s hard work, especially in the heat of a Punjab summer, but it’s what we do. We’ve been here for years and plan to stay for many more. Sometimes we sit outside under the shade.
