Umang Trading

We are over at Shop No V 35 in the APMC Marketing Yard in Chitra. If you have ever been to a marketing yard, you know it is a lot of noise and shouting and moving parts. Umang Trading is right in the thick of it. We open up very early, usually before the sun is even fully up, because that is when the first loads arrive. The shop isn't very big, mostly just space for the goods and a small area where we sit to do the billing. There are bags everywhere, and the smell of the market is always in the air. We spend a lot of time on our feet, talking to farmers and other traders. It’s a rough and tumble kind of environment. Our clothes usually get a bit dirty from all the lifting and the dust from the yard. We don't have any fancy chairs or air conditioning. It’s just us and the goods we trade. Sometimes the rain leaks in a bit near the door, and we have to move things around quickly to keep everything dry. That is just how it goes in a place like this. We focus on getting the prices right and moving the stock as fast as we can. It’s a high-energy spot and there isn't much time for sitting around. People come and go all day, and we just keep the books as best as we can. There’s a small tap at the back where we wash our hands, and the cold water feels good after a long morning of work.
