Our place is located at Plot No. 281/B in the Chitra GIDC. Suman Papad is where we spend most of our waking hours. Making papad is more work than people think. It’s all about the dough and the drying time. We have to keep a close eye on the weather because humidity really changes how things turn out. On the shop floor, there’s usually a lot of activity with people moving trays around and checking the thickness of the sheets. It gets warm in here, especially when the dryers are running. We are a local bunch, mostly neighbors and people from the surrounding area who have been working together for years. It’s not a high-tech facility, just a place with the right tools and enough space to get the job done properly. We don’t have a marketing team or anything like that. We just focus on making sure the batches are consistent and that the bags are packed right before they go out. Sometimes we run out of space when the orders pile up, so we have to get creative with how we stack things in the corner. There’s always the sound of machines and people talking over the noise. It feels like a big family some days, even when we’re all tired and ready to go home. We’ve been at this spot in Chitra for a long time, and we know the rhythms of the industrial estate by heart now. It is just a simple food business run by local people.
