Chandradeep Industries

Our place, Chandradeep Industries, is right at 18, Port Godown, which is directly opposite the IOC in the Old Port area of Bhavnagar. It’s a real working part of town, so there is always a lot of dust and the smell of the sea and fuel in the air. The godown itself is an old building, nothing fancy to look at, but it has plenty of space for what we do. We spend a lot of time moving things around the floor and making sure the inventory is where it belongs. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially with the metal roof, but we just keep the big doors open to let whatever breeze comes off the water in. The traffic around the port is constant, with trucks coming and going from the IOC plant, so there’s always a background noise of engines and horns. We’ve been here long enough that we don’t even notice it anymore. The office part is just a small partitioned area with a few old chairs and a desk that’s seen better days. We don't have a receptionist or a sign that lights up at night. It’s just a practical spot where we handle our business and get the orders out the door. Most days are pretty long, but being near the old port has a certain feel to it that we like. It’s a tough, honest place to work and we just get on with things.
