Lakhani Clinic

Lakhani Clinic is located in Gadhada, right near the Swaminarayan Temple. Because we are so close to the temple, we get a lot of people walking by every day. You can often hear the bells ringing or the sound of people chanting if the wind is blowing the right way. The clinic itself is quite simple and small. We have a few rooms for seeing patients and a tiny area where people can sit while they wait. The furniture is mostly wooden and has been here since the clinic first opened. It feels more like a house than a medical office sometimes. Gadhada is a place where everyone seems to know everyone else, so we spend a lot of time chatting with people about their families while we work. The floors are made of stone and they stay relatively cool even when the sun is beating down outside. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who handle everything from the cleaning to the record-keeping. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just open the windows and keep going. It is a quiet kind of work compared to the big city hospitals. We have a small shelf with some medical books and a calendar that is usually a month behind. It is just a local clinic doing what it can for the people who live near the temple and in the surrounding streets.
